Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator will support the Program Manager by maintaining communication with School Orchard Caretakers, community partners, and the public. This role includes managing ReTreeUS’ social media presence, creating newsletters, and coordinating events. The Coordinator will also assist with photo documentation, grant support, and sharing educational resources with teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Communications and Outreach

Serve as the primary contact for schools, Orchard Caretakers, and partners. Manage ReTreeUS’ social media accounts, crafting engaging posts to raise awareness of our mission. Develop and distribute monthly newsletters and press releases. Take photos at program site visits and obtain necessary permissions for their use.

  • Program Coordination

Assist in coordinating the Educational Orchard and Back to School Garden programs. Work closely with school staff to share educational resources and track lesson deliverables. Facilitate stipends for Orchard Caretakers. Update and maintain organizational spreadsheets to track program activities and outcomes.

  • Event and Administrative Support

Help organize and execute community and educational events. Support fundraising and grant-writing efforts to secure funding for program expansion. Perform various administrative duties as directed by the Program Manager.

Organization Overview

ReTreeUS is a nonprofit program of United Charitable with the mission “to inspire generations of food growers, environmental stewards, and problem solvers through experiential education in orchards and gardens.” Since 2012, ReTreeUS has planted over 100 educational orchards and food forests, engaging thousands of students across Maine and New Hampshire.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Environmental Studies, Education, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, community engagement, or program coordination.
    • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or in the field of environmental education is a plus.
  • Skills and Knowledge
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating content for social media, newsletters, and public communications.
    • Proficiency with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and content creation tools.
    • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
    • Basic photography skills and comfort in documenting program activities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM or project management software.
    • Experience editing websites
    • Graphic design skills
    • Driven independent work ethic
  • Other Requirements
    • Must have a reliable vehicle for program-related travel (mileage reimbursed at the national rate).
    • Access to a computer, reliable internet, and a home office setup for remote work.
    • Willingness to attend in-person meetings in Sandwich, NH or Portland, ME and other program related events throughout Maine and New Hampshire
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $32 per hour.
Hours: Part-time (25-30 hours per week) with potential to expand to full-time with benefits.
