Position Description

The Catholic Foundation of Maine is currently seeks a Director of Development to lead coordinated, integrated, donor-focused efforts which raise funds that enable the Catholic Church in Maine to do the work entrusted to it by the Lord. The director’s duties include but are not limited to: providing fundraising leadership and service parish clergy and lay leaders, Catholic school leaders, and individual Catholics; managing the annual Catholic Appeal; and planning and implementing donor stewardship and parish offertory. The successful candidate will be an active member of the Roman Catholic Church, possess a minimum of five years of development experience with proven success working on annual, major, and planned gifts, and thoroughly understand the components of building and managing a diversified funding base.

The Catholic Foundation of Maine is a 501 c 3 public charity whose mission is to establish and steward endowments that support people through ministries, charities, organizations, missions, scholarships, churches, parishes, vocations, and more, in perpetuity.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • Understand and implement the Church’s teachings, especially its theology of fundraising, discipleship, and stewardship
  • Demonstrate extensive experience and success in fundraising, preferably in the Church
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of development experience with proven success working on annual and major gifts
  • Possess high energy and a positive attitude with a high degree of initiative
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand thoroughly the components of building and managing a diversified funding base
  • Demonstrate success in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors
  • Demonstrate experience with direct mail, online, and social media fundraising programs  
  • Demonstrate ability to work well with all constituencies of the diocese, including clergy, parish leaders and volunteers and individual donors
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree, CFRE preferred. 
  • Be an active, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
Compensation and Benefits

We offer excellent benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance as well as life, long term disability and AD& D insurance.  A defined contribution pension plan as well as a voluntary 403b plan with both pre-tax and Roth options.  Four weeks of vacation per year, 14 holidays and 12 sick days per year (which can accrue to 30 sick days)
