The Avesta Housing Corporate and Major Gifts Officer plays a leading role in building and cultivating relationships with corporations and major donors to secure essential funding for our organization’s mission. The person in this position ensures that our corporate and major donor relations are managed effectively and in a manner befitting Avesta’s core values of relationships, humanity, quality, and stewardship.

Key responsibilities include developing donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; conducting donor prospect research; managing a portfolio of current donors and donor prospects; tracking and assessing program metrics for donors; tracking and assessing fundraising metrics for Avesta leadership and Board of Directors.

Work Location 

While the Corporate and Major Gifts Officer’s work can be done mostly from home, the person in this role is expected to work at our main office, located at 307 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, Maine, at least 1 day per week, and as needed. Occasional travel in Maine and New Hampshire may be required.

Avesta Housing is a local leader in housing development, property management, and assisted living solutions. Founded in 1972, our nonprofit organization serves individuals and families in need of quality affordable housing in Maine and New Hampshire.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred, but will consider candidates with deep professional experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Minimum of seven years of successful experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a specific focus on corporate and major gifts preferred
  • Demonstrated success in creating and executing successful fundraising campaigns 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, donor management software (preferably DonorPerfect), cloud-based file sharing, and project management software
  • Able to communicate fluently in English  
  • Proven track record in securing major and corporate gifts 
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical regulations governing donor contributions 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to build strong relationships with donors 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders
Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position, and the annual salary range is $75,000 - $85,000.
