Position Description

The Development Director’s primary responsibility is to develop, manage, and implement ClimateWork Maine’s strategic development plan, which includes planning, executing, and evaluating fundraising and outreach activities for the organization. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director, staff, Board, and volunteers to enhance and support the organization's overall mission and ensure that ample philanthropic, membership, and sponsorship funds are generated. The position is remote, with a potential workspace located in Portland, Maine.

Other responsibilities including utilizing prospect research to identify new sources of support regularly; supporting the organizational budgeting process; serving as staff advisor to the Development & Programs Working Group; working with staff to develop organization-wide communications and marketing plans to support fundraising efforts; managing the production of annual reports, annual appeals, and program invitations; and other duties as needed to help the organization reach its annual goals.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive organizational fundraising plan to support the long-term sustainability and growth of ClimateWork Maine, including: Annual fund; Major donors; Sponsorships; Government and Foundation grants; Endowment; Corporate memberships and sponsorships; Events - donor & volunteer engagement/friend-raising and fundraising.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors, trustees, and friends.
  • Using a CRM database, establish and maintain complete and accurate tracking processes and systems to cultivate, acknowledge, and communicate with past, current, and future donors;
  • Create and manage an organization-wide grants calendar, identifying and prioritizing likely sources of corporate and foundation support.
  • Work with the Executive Director to draft and submit grants.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • At least 3 years’ experience in development and fundraising
  • Exceptional attention to detail, well organized, focused, and goal-oriented, with a high level of initiative, energy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills and ability
  • Prior experience in database management is required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and preference for working in a fast- paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work independently and with teams and an ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and seek direction when needed. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, commitment to quality, and ability to manage sensitive materials in a confidential manner.
Compensation and Benefits

Employee shall be entitled to company benefits as follows:

Paid Sick Days, Paid Vacation, Paid Holidays, Health Insurance optional (Agreement on options based on initial discussion), Retirement Plan optional for employee after 6 months of FTE employment, Laptop Computer and associated equipment, Out Of Pocket Expenses Including Travel.

Position may transition to FTE role based on funding secured after six months of PTE role.
