Domestic Violence Prevention Educator

Make a meaningful impact in your community and join a great team.  The Prevention Educator implements a robust community education and prevention program that raises awareness about domestic and dating violence and Caring Unlimited services; provides education and training to diverse audiences to; helps to effectively meet the safety needs of victims/survivors; and prevent domestic violence. Approximately 50% of the Educator’s time is focused on youth, schools, and youth serving organizations.  

Organization Overview

Caring Unlimited is the Domestic Violence Resource Center for York County. We provide direct support to more than 2,000 individuals annually through the 24-Hour Helpline, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Outreach Services, Parent Support, and Legal Assistance Programs. The Community Response Program provides consultation, community education/training, and systems advocacy with the justice system, community-based agencies and organizations, local schools, and the general public with a goal of fostering an effective, coordinated community response that protects victims and holds people who use abuse accountable.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides information, education and training with community agencies, schools, and organizations regarding the dynamics of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking as appropriate and effective responses to support victims in becoming safe.
  2. Responds, in a timely manner, to requests for community education and trainings and identifies and solicits audiences to receive training.
  3. Develops and updates training materials, including presentation outlines and area specific curriculum according to best practices. 
  4. Conducts post-presentation training evaluations to ensure quality services and meet the reporting requirements of program funders.
  5. Contributes to advocacy training for new staff and volunteers.
  6. Promotes the visibility of Caring Unlimited and raises awareness of domestic violence through placement of posters, brochures and informational literature throughout York County and attendance at community events.
  7. Contributes to the creation and implementation of an annual Education and Prevention Program plan that meets programmatic and organizational strategic objectives. 
  8. Provide safety planning, individual and group support, crisis intervention, and information and referrals to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking including youth, 
  9. Participates in shared 24-hour helpline coverage and backup

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • At least one year prior related experience in education or training; experience in public speaking preferred. 
  • Strong oral/written communication skills with demonstrated skills and experience in systems advocacy, individual advocacy, group facilitation.
  • Dynamic public presentation skills.
  • Ability to create and sustain respectful relationships with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Motivated self-starter, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently, and balance multiple projects at a time. 
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn Microsoft operating systems and office suite, as well as the online database.

Education Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited four-year institution required or the equivalent in education and closely-related work or personal experience, preferred.  
  • Successful completion of required advocacy training within 6 months of hire. 
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Ability to work directly with victims of violence and with the public on their behalf.
