Position Description

The Executive Director is responsible for organizational leadership, fundraising, financial management, human resources, and overall operations.  S/he assures equitable  human resources management, and compliance with appropriate laws.  S/he is an advocate for ArtVan in the larger community and with donors and government representatives.  The Director works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure mission alignment and robust governance. 

Working alongside the Board of Directors, Program Director, and other staff, s/he is prepared for uncertainties that arise with nonprofit work, changes in neighborhood needs, community norms and economic shifts, and seeks to be self-directed, adaptive, and creative – an innovative solutionary. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

Organization Overview

ArtVan is a nonprofit, mobile art therapy organization founded in 2004. Traveling in a brightly painted van, professional staff travel to neighborhoods with art supplies selected for specially-designed themes. Meeting children and youth where they are, weekly group art therapy sessions encourage well being and healing. Service communities presently include Bath, Brunswick, Lewiston, Auburn, Rumford, and Mexico.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
  • Commitment to mission driven work
  • Bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years of professional experience in nonprofit sector and/or administration 
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to drive a 15-person van
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and Little Green Light preferred

  • Full time, exempt position, 35 hours per week
