Land Acknowledgment

Maine Philanthropy Center's work is centered on the state of Maine. Long before the state of Maine existed, this land was stewarded by the Wabanaki people.

For this reason, we acknowledge the land we are on and center the experiences of the Wabanaki people – the Indigenous people who welcome the dawn to the land and nurtured this space as stewards of Mother Earth.

We make this acknowledgement aware that this land is unceded and of the continual violations of water, territorial rights, and sacred sites in the Wabanaki homeland. MPC is committed to building reciprocal relationships with tribal nations, elevating the perspectives of Indigenous people, and using our power to repair harm, including advocating for Wabanaki issues and elevating Indigenous perspectives in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector.
