Announcing New MPC Benefits and Services

Published
3/11/2025

Maine Philanthropy Center is excited to announce several updates to our research and data offerings, including new services for the community and member-only benefits! Find out more below and reach out to us at mpc@mainephilanthropy.org with any questions.

New Member Benefit: Philanthropy Data Request Form

MPC is delighted to leverage our information and staff resources to further our member's critical work.

Starting now, MPC members can use our new Philanthropy Data Request Form to request data from databases such as our Directory of Maine Grantmakers and Candid's Foundation Directory Online.

Make a request such as:

  • List of foundations supporting one or more subject areas;
  • List of nonprofits receiving grants in one or more subject areas in Maine;
  • Grants received from peer organizations;
  • Salary information from peer funders;
  • And more!

Requests for philanthropy data are intended as a supplement to information that can be easily gathered using public resources on philanthropy, such as data about an individual foundation that can be found on their website.

Philanthropy Data Request Form

This is a member-only service. You can find the form link on our Grant Research resource. Make sure you are logged in to fill out the form. Reach out to us if you have questions about your MPC membership status.

Directory of Maine Grantmakers Update

MPC's Directory of Maine Grantmakers is a unique resource that contains up-to-date profiles of over 400 funders that have a history of supporting Maine nonprofits.

In order to facilitate more frequent profile updates and new data services, we have decided to discontinue the print version of the Directory of Maine Grantmakers. This decision was based on limited staff capacity, expanded member data benefits including the Philanthropy Data Request Form, and feedback from recent print Directory purchasers.

With this change, you will find improvements such as:

  • Grantmaker profiles will be reviewed yearly (previously every two years)
  • More staff capacity to provide services including the Philanthropy Data Request Form
  • More frequent releases of new features for the Directory and related research resources

The online Directory of Maine Grantmakers will continue to be a member-only benefit. Nonmembers can use the online Directory by making a grant research support appointment (see below).

New Service for All: Walk-In FDO Access and Updated Grant Research Support Appointments

With MPC's move to our new home at the Equality Community Center, we are making exciting improvements to our free grant research appointments.

We are thrilled to increase the accessibility of Candid's Foundation Directory Online (FDO), a powerful database of foundations, grants, and grantees. Starting now, anyone can access FDO without an appointment simply by coming to the ECC. You'll just need to login to the ECC Wi-Fi and go to the posted link to receive premium access to Candid's database.

We have also moved our Grant Research Support Appointments to the ECC. If you need some extra guidance or want to use the Directory of Maine Grantmakers as a nonmember, you can make a free appointment to meet with MPC staff.
