Maine Community Foundation awards $272K to 47 Greater Portland nonprofit organizations
The Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) awarded 47 grants totaling $271,987 to nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Portland area through the Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund and the Rines Thompson Fund.
The Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund awarded 12 grants totaling $95,487. Donors with advised funds at MaineCF awarded an additional six grants totaling $25,900. The Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund supports early childhood and youth engagement programs in Greater Portland.
2024 grantees include:
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, Portland, to provide youth development programming in Southern Maine
- Foundation for Portland Public Schools, Portland, for Parent University, a program of the Portland Public Schools to engage families in student learning
- Waynflete School, Portland, for a mentoring program between Waynflete and Reiche students that cultivates greater resilience by building developmental assets
The Rines Thompson Fund awarded 28 grants totaling $147,000. A donor with an advised fund at MaineCF awarded an additional $3,600. The Rines Thompson Fund supports community organizations that focus on the environment and conservation, early childhood and youth programming and arts and culture.
2024 grantees include:
- Falmouth Conservation Trust, for ongoing place-based environmental education opportunities for children and students in Portland and Falmouth
- Kino, to collect, conserve and screen significant motion pictures in their original film format to preserve the analog cinema experience
- Portland Housing Services Corporation, to empower marginalized youth to enact positive change in their communities while developing leadership and life skills ensuring future success
