The Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) awarded $108,000 to 15 Greater Portland nonprofit organizations. The foundation’s Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund awarded 13 grants totaling $95,500. Donors with advised funds awarded two additional grants totaling $12,500.

The Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund supports early childhood and youth engagement programs in Greater Portland. The directors of the fund recognize the critical roles parents and early childhood education providers play to ensure a child’s readiness to enter school on a path to success and the importance of youth engagement programs that help develop aspirations and abilities.

2023 grantees include:

  • Portland Community Squash, for financial aid and transportation for any Portland student enrolled in after school and summer programs
  • The Center for Grieving Children, to deliver intercultural peer support programming to serve children, teens and their families who have resettled locally from countries experiencing war, persecution and natural disaster
  • United Way of Southern Maine, to develop a thriving child care entrepreneurship ecosystem and increase the number of sustainable, accessible quality child care programs.
