MaineCF awards $222K to 19 Greater Portland organizations
The Maine Community Foundation’s (MaineCF) Welch Charitable Fund has awarded $222,443 to 19 organizations that serve Greater Portland.
The fund supports organizations that assist people in need with preference to nonprofits focused on youth, education, health care, substance abuse recovery and/or arts and culture.
2024 grantees include:
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, capacity building, to expand and renovate the Portland Clubhouse, including constructing a new Teen Center
- Milestone Recovery, project, for renovations and repairs to its homeless shelter for people experiencing substance use disorders
- Woodfords Family Service, capacity building, for the Expeditions Community Support Program to offer health and wellness opportunities for adults with disabilities
The Welch Charitable Fund was established as a private family foundation in 1983 by Vincent and Barbara Welch and is advised by friends of the Welches.
