Investing in the Census as a Strategy to Advance Democracy
Supporting census organizing is crucial for ensuring accurate data collection, which impacts political representation, federal funding, and community services. Accurate census data helps allocate over $800 billion in federal assistance and ensures fair representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Maine, supporting the census ensures that historically undercounted groups, such as people of color, immigrants, and rural and low-income households, are accurately represented and receive their fair share of resources.
