John T. Gorman partnerships receive national recognition
Earlier this month, the John T. Gorman Foundation was honored to accept the Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and National Council on Foundations. The award recognized the Foundation for its role in supporting a community-driven partnership to bring safe housing and economic opportunity to Lewiston’s Tree Streets neighborhood.
“It’s an honor for the John T. Gorman Foundation to accept this award on behalf of the many partners who are working so hard to make Lewiston’s Tree Streets neighborhood a place where all residents thrive,” said Nicole Witherbee. “From safer housing to more economic opportunities, this community partnership has produced incredible results in recent years – and a brighter future is still ahead. The Foundation has felt privileged to be a part of it.”
In June, the Whole Family Approach to Jobs initiative – a New England effort to promote family well-being and economic mobility through the collaboration of state agencies, policymakers, parents, and the private sector – received the Future of Human Services Award from the American Public Human Services Association. The John T. Gorman Foundation has been a longtime participant in the initiative, with staff co-leading Maine’s team since its launch and supporting the release of a recent report on addressing benefit cliffs, a sudden reduction in government assistance that can come with an increase in household income.
