This month we are highlighting the Equality Community Center (ECC), Maine Philanthropy Center's new home! We encourage you to explore the work of the Equality Community Center by visiting their website to explore their programs and opportunities or following them on Facebook and Instagram.

Organization: Equality Community Center

Mission: The Equality Community Center is a collaborative workplace for LGBTQ+ and allied social justice seeking non-profit organizations. We strive to provide a safer and more inclusive gathering space with social and educational programming for all, while supporting the most marginalized in our communities.

Recent Accomplishment: The ECC is proud to be in the final stretch of its capital campaign with $250,000 left to raise of the original $4M goal. The campaign has provided the critical resources to purchase and renovate the original Maine Savings Bank located on Casco Street in downtown Portland, transforming it into a safe and welcoming hub for Maine's LGBTQ+ community. With 22,000 sqft of office, meeting, event and social/programmatic space, the Center is now home to 16 different LGBTQ+ and social justice-focused non-profit orgs. The third and final priority of the campaign is to support the planning and development of Maine's first affordable senior housing complex offering supportive services for LGBTQ+ older adults. The goal for breaking ground is this fall with occupancy planned for Spring 2026.
