Organization: Food AND Medicine
Mission: Food AND Medicine’s mission is to organize, educate, and empower workers and our communities in the fight for economic, social and racial justice. We believe that by creating active partnerships with unions, farmers, BIPOC groups, community groups, small businesses, faith-based and allied organizations we will create solutions and positive change.
Food AND Medicine is a regional grassroots membership organization that focuses on people choosing between food, medicine and other basic necessities, to organize and build collective power for positive change. We prioritize strategic partnerships with unions, faith centers, small family farms, recovery centers, and other allied organizations to build credibility and power to improve the Greater Bangor region. We utilize the traditions of popular education, collective action, and direct service along with strategic analysis to nurture effective and sustainable programs of: our expanding network of 31 collective gardens in subsidized housing, recovery and low-income areas; our growing civic engagement program; public transit advocacy; and our annual Solidarity Harvest Thanksgiving meal basket programs. We view our work as "Solidarity, not charity."
