As we continue to highlight the incredible work of our members, this month we are highlighting the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA). We encourage you to explore the work of MOFGA by visiting their website to explore their programs and initiatives or following them on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Organization: Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA)

Mission: MOFGA is a broad-based community that educates about and advocates for organic agriculture, illuminating its interdependence with a healthy environment, local food production, and thriving communities.

Recent Highlights: "We recently brought back our annual Seed Swap and Scion Exchange as an in-person event and are looking forward to several more upcoming educational events both online and in-person for farmers, gardeners, homesteaders and the general public. These include our Grow Your Own Organic Garden course, several orcharding events, our Bread and Brews festival and many more. And, plans are well underway for the Common Ground Country Fair, which will take place September 23-25, 2022."

Advocacy Opportunity:  MOFGA staff are working across departments to offer up-to-date, reliable and responsive answers and resources to address members of our community impacted by PFAS contamination. This includes pushing for legislative action, offering one-on-one support for farmers, collaborating with partners to conduct research and advance our understanding of the issue, and providing direct financial support to affected farms via a fund jointly administered with Maine Farmland Trust.
