The Arboretum is a no-fee 224 acre botanical garden which features miles of trails, a rotating suite of programs and events, a full service visitor center, and a variety of habitats home to flora and fauna of Statewide importance. May is a great time to visit the many unique habitats and see migratory birds. The Visitor Center is open 10:30a-4:30p and has bathrooms, a gift shop, and interactive displays including a living beehive.

For travelers coming to Augusta from the south using the interstate, there's a special reason to stop at the West Gardiner Service Plaza: The Center for Maine Craft. A large shop and gallery including the work of 300 Maine artists and craftspeople. Open daily 9a-6p.
Bond Brook Recreation Area, Tall Pines Way, Augusta ME
Large local recreation area near the Civic center with 10+ miles of trails through woods and over streams. There are specific hiking and mountain biking trails, and pets are allowed. Multiple trail heads and parking options are located along Tall Pines Way and at the Stadium.
Art in the Capitol, Maine State House, Augusta, ME 04330
The Maine Arts Commission hosts regular art shows in the heart of the state capital. Artist Frank Sullivan has an exhibition titled Familiar Places currently on display at theState House Gallery in the Maine State House in Augusta until April 30th. Just across the way in the Cross Building, 44 Maine high school students have art on display in the Maine Excellence in Arts Education exhibition running through May 30th. Visitors to the Capitol Complex can visit anytime during open business hours, Mon-Fri 8a-5p.

The Kennebec Land Trust (KLT) works cooperatively with landowners and communities to conserve the forests, lakes, streams, wetlands, fields, and wildlife that help define central Maine. KLT has many properties to explore in the Augusta area, including two in Augusta: Judy Kane Preserve, Kennebec River Conservation Corridor and Howard Hill Conservation Area.
